There’s been a lot of rumors going back and forth about the revival of Twin Peaks on Showtime. The last news seemed to be that negotiations had broken down and it wouldn’t be happening at all. But, last night David Lynch took to Twitter to announce that we were back on!

Now, given how things went earlier I think most of us will wait until there’s a release date announced to get our hopes up, but this is a good sign. It’s been over a month since we heard that the project was dead, so the fact that things have been bubbling along behind the scenes for that amount of time would seem to indicate that Showtime is invested in making this happen.

If it does work out, it will be interesting to see how a show like Twin Peaks reworks itself to be interesting and innovative in a world of TV shows that have been inspired by Twin Peaks. It’s been over 20 years since the original series concluded and we’ve had so much advancement in television with complex plots and long mysteries that Twin Peaks might need a major overhaul to work in this day and age. But we’ll see. I trust that Lynch has a vision that he wants to get out there, and that Showtime wants to help him do it. Hopefully it actually happens.
