If at some distant point in the future I need to explain to people what life was like in 2014, I think I’d say, “People watched and wrote about a show that no one could decide if they liked or not.”
But maybe Girls doesn’t need to be likeable as long as it’s watchable. And with Shoshanna’s parents being added to the show this year, it will continue to be very watchable.
Ana Gasteyer aka The Woman Who Out Celine Dioned Celine Dion and Anthony Edwards aka The Man Who Occupies The Awkward Intersection Of Guy-You-Have-A-Crush-On And Guy-You-Want-To-Be-Your-Dad Since 19994 will play Shoshanna’s parents in the fourth season.
Little is known about the Shapiro family unit, but Shoshanna does get irked with her parents when they make a big deal of her diploma signing. The youngest member of the “Girls” entourage will also struggle to find a job, as she blows a job interview on the Jan. 25 episode.
While I actually like the core “girls” in the show, I wouldn’t be able to watch them without the additional characters. I need them to be the Greek chorus. The show’s internal moral barometer saying, “No, Hannah, please stop doing that.” The season should have plenty of barometers though:
Natasha Lyonne, Gillian Jacobs, Marc Maron, Zachary Quinto, Jason Ritter, Maude Apatow and Spike Jonze are also set for guest shots.
Wait, what? Way to bury the lede, Variety. I am thrilled with all of this. And there’s a small part of me that hopes Gillian Jacobs plays season three Britta fighting over a guy with Marnie. It would be too awesomely bad to turn away from.
