Yesterday it was announced that Geena Davis will be joining the ranks of surgeons at Seattle’s Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital for upcoming season of the medical drama. “Wait, Grey’s Anatomy is still on?” Yes. Obviously. Otherwise why would Geena Davis be joining the cast?
There’s no word on what role on the series her character will play, other than delighting me by dwarfing Derrick Shepherd on a regular basis. The show lost series regular Sandra Oh after the end of the last season when she abandoned Seattle Grace Mercy Death for Zurich, and most of us still watching heaved a huge sigh of relief that the last reason to care about the show had elegantly departed. This news means I may have to tune in once or twice just to see if Ms.Davis will be bringing any semblance of sanity to the most poorly run hospital with the “best” surgeons. Is it wrong that I’m rooting against her success? I like Geena Davis, but without Cristina Yang, I feel like the best thing for the show is a final season to wrap up the other characters before ending with as much dignity as it can muster at this point. Perhaps Davis can help it with that.
