Look, I realize there are bigger issues afoot in the world. Like, if it isn’t racists, it’s sexists. Or if it isn’t systemic harassment, it’s the threat of actual nuclear warfare. Cool. Coolcoolcool. So you’ll forgive me if I’m going to take each and every new piece of information about the upcoming BBC/Amazon Good Omens adaptation and nerd the fuck out over it. Because sometimes? Sometimes it seems like this is the only thing going right in the world.

So in light of that, I invite you all to bask in the dove-gray splendor that is Jon Hamm in costume as the Angel Gabriel:

His hair, almost winged in its glory. That turtleneck, worn with such casual confidence on his heavenly body. The coat, which manages to match his hint of stubble. But most of all, soak up that expression — the way he’s assessing, but not judging. Serious, but not unapproachable. Righteous, but fair.

Or at least, I can only assume those things. Maybe he’ll be a big ol’ asshole! Who knows. Thing is, Gabriel only gets a passing mention in the novel by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. We don’t know much about his personality at all. The role has been expanded by Gaiman himself for this adaptation. As he stated when Hamm’s casting was announced:

“He is everything that Aziraphale isn’t. He’s tall, good-looking, charismatic and impeccably dressed. We were fortunate that Jon Hamm was available, given that he is already all of these things without even having to act.”

Just a reminder — Good Omens, the comedic miniseries starring Michael Sheen and David Tennant as an angel and a demon trying to stop the apocalypse, won’t hit screens until 2019. So we’ve got a lot of time to obsess over the minutiae. Bring it on, Gaiman!
