'Furious 7' Made $1 Billion in Just Over Two Weeks
There’s a new kind of billion dollar franchise in town, James Wan’s Furious 7 has now become the 20th film to ever gross $1 billion, and true to the nature of the franchise they did it faster than anyone else. It’s taken just 17 days for Furious 7 to hit the $1 billion mark worldwide. That’s two days faster than the three previous record holders, Avatar, The Avengers, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 which all managed $1 billion in 19 days. Humbling when I compare that to what I’ve managed to accomplish in the last two and a half weeks.
Furious 7 isn’t just shaking up things at the box office. This week on the Billboard Hot 100 the song “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth that played over Paul Walker’s last scenes in the film jumped from #10 to #1 dislodging “Uptown Funk” from a position it held for more than three months. Here’s the video for “See You Again” which has nearly 70 million views since it was posted less than two weeks ago. Get tissues.
There’s been no official announcement of another film in the Fast and Furious franchise, but at this point it seems inevitable. Lets hope they spend some of that giant pile of cash on better photo editors for their posters because all other things aside, the Furious 7 poster was hilariously bad.
