First Look: Al Pacino As Joe Paterno Will Haunt You
Thanks, HBO Films. Seriously. Thanks. I was having a lovely morning - mixed up a DIY hair mask, put a shower cap over it to wait, terrified my dog who apparently doesn’t recognize me with sticky plastic over my head. You know, real relaxing stuff. I was taking some me-time.
And then I looked at the internet and saw this shit staring back at me.
That, my friends, is Al Pacino gussied up as Joe Paterno, the “winningest” coach in college football history, who was later dismissed by Penn State in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse revelations. HBO Films is currently in production on the as-yet-untitled Paterno project, which is directed by Barry Levinson. And here is a side-by-side comparison with the real Paterno.
This sounds like another in the long line of HBO prestige films based on real life, such as their previous Pacino vehicle You Don’t Know Jack (about Dr. Jack Kevorkian) or this year’s The Wizard of Lies starring Robert De Niro as Bernie Madoff. In theory none of these are horror films, but you know what? Looking at that picture of Pacino, I’m pretty sure HBO is tapping into some serious nightmare fuel.
But if that isn’t haunting enough for you, then here’s a pic of Johnny Depp hitting rock bottom and finding Charlie Sheen there to break his fall.
