Joe Carnahan (The Blacklist, The Grey, The A-Team) has an interesting history with film studios, and his latest release is no exception. After seeing the finished product back in January, Universal decided it didn’t want to spend the millions on a theatrical release, and Carnahan took to Twitter to support his film.
Comedy thriller Stretch stars Patrick Wilson as a desperate-for-cash chauffeur who spends a night driving a lunatic billionaire (Chris Pine) who’s being tracked by a group of criminals. Wilson’s night on the job is filled with ever-increasingly strange and dangerous encounters. This is the film that gave us a look at staging a sex scene between Wilson and Brooklyn Decker.
Described by Carnahan himself as “weird,” Stretch was released on Amazon and iTunes yesterday, and goes VOD October 14th, and the director pretty much guarantees you’ll like it:
The cast looks great, the ride wild, and heck, what have you got to lose? Going by all the Twitter activity, Carnahan’s bankroll just might be safe.
Stretch also stars Ed Helms, Jessica Alba, and James Badge Dale. Read Grantland’s great piece on Joe Carnahan’s film history.
