The final box office numbers are in for 20th Century Fox’s Fantastic Four and the results are probably more embarrassing than anticipated. The film earned $26.2 million on 3,995 screens in the US to come in second to Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation which earned $29.4 million in its second week. The overseas news isn’t great either, as it only earned $34.1 million in international box office which puts its global numbers for the opening weekend at about half the film’s budget. And with terrible reviews and poor audience reaction, it’s unlikely that those numbers are going to improve. This means the film earned less than the last two Fantastic Four movies in their opening weekends, and is one of the worst debuts for a Marvel Comics film adaptation.

No word yet on the planned sequel.
