Everything You Thought You Knew About 'True Detective' Season 2 Is Mostly True

Not all the rumors surrounding True Detective season two have officially come to fruition (there’s no Jessica Chastain or Elizabeth Moss, for instance), but credit to all the news wranglers — in particular, Jeff Sneider over on The Wrap — who have been right more times than not over the last several months as negotiations with the cast have come to their conclusions. HBO has finally made its TD season two casting official, and it’s pretty much what we thought, plus Kelly Reilly (who I hadn’t heard seriously before).

Here’s the cast, per an official HBO press release:

Colin Farrell as Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.

Vince Vaughn as Frank Semyon, a criminal and entrepreneur in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.

Rachel McAdams as Ani Bezzerides, a Ventura County Sheriff’s detective whose uncompromising ethics put her at odds with others and the system she serves.

Taylor Kitsch as Paul Woodrugh, a war veteran and motorcycle officer for the California Highway Patrol, running from a difficult past and the sudden glare of a scandal that never happened.

Kelly Reilly as Jordan, Frank Semyon’s wife, a former D-list actress who is a full partner in his enterprises and ambitions.

This is Kelly Reilly, in case the name wasn’t familiar.

Justin Lin has also been confirmed as the director of the first two episodes, and here’s the official logline: “Three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.”

The eight-episode season has already begun production in California. Anticipate a summer 2015 release.
