HBO still hasn’t confirmed a damn thing about the casting in the final season of True Detective, although the trades have been reporting that Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch and Vince Vaughn have been in final negotiations for weeks. Generally, when it gets to the “final” portion of the negotiations, one would expect those negotiations to close soon, but that has not been the case.
Nevertheless, Variety is reporting that Justin Lin (Fast and the Furious, the paintball episode of Community) is in talks to be the next director to butt heads with creator Nic Pizzolatto, who clearly doesn’t get that much respect from his cast. Justin Lin’s participation in at least a couple of episodes almost seems to confirm rumors that season two will have a lighter tone, which almost certainly has to be true with the cast amassed so far, especially Vince Vaughn.
In addition to that report, Variety is also suggesting that Elisabeth Moss — formerly the frontrunner for the sole female lead — now has competition in the form of Rachel McAdams, a lovely actress who sometimes makes terrible movies, though that would not include one of my stand-by guilty pleasures, Morning Glory, which is charming as all hell, so you can just SHUT UP Josh Kurp (and OK, whatever, features McAdams prancing around in her underwear and heels, but THAT’S NOT IMPORTANT).
Anyway, Jessica Chastain was once sought for the role, but honestly, True Detective will be lucky with whoever ends up with the role, Moss, McAdams, or Chastain. JUST PICK SOMEONE AND GET ON WITH IT.
