Edgar Wright's Next Movie Gets a Plot and a Babyfaced Lead Actor
When Edgar Wright bowed out of Ant-Man last summer, leaving us all in tears, he quickly dried our cheeks with promises of a new original film, Baby Driver. We didn’t know much at the time, other than that it would be “a collision of crime, action, music and sound” in the same vein as the Cornetto Trilogy. Now, though, we have a few new details, including that the movie’s lead will be Babyface Ansel Elgort (of The Fault in Our Stars and all the Divergences), who I’m pretty sure I very much like when he’s not playing insufferable characters cramming their dumb “metaphors” down your throats.
Plot follows a talented, young getaway driver who relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. After being coerced into working for a crime boss, he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom. The only part of this I don’t get is that Elgort has barely even started playing characters old enough to drive, and I think you need more than a learner’s permit to be a decent getaway driver AND OH YOU GUYS I THINK I GET THE TITLE. Otherwise, this sounds like it could be sort of a Drive meets Scott Pilgrim, and I can’t imagine anyone could possibly complain about that idea.
