Don't You Love It When Good Things Happen to Horrible Human Beings?

Here’s yet two more instances where Hollywood insists on giving horrible human beings more chances at a comeback, because everyone loves a comeback, except the people who continue to be burned by them. I mean, seriously, people: There’s a big enough pool of talented actors and actresses in Hollywood that there’s no need to give one more than a few bites at the apple. With Lindsay Lohan and Mel Gibson, it’s time to move on down the line.

But, who doesn’t love a reclamation project, an opportunity to give America the illusion that these people are rehabilitated? Take Mel Gibson: Racist, anti-semitic asshole. Is he talented? Sure. Is he more talented than the line of decent actors behind him? Not really. All the same, Robert Rodriguez is in talks to bring him aboard the sequel to Machete, which is called Machete Kills. He also wants Michelle Williams, who should know better than to actually accept.

Lindsay Lohan, meanwhile, has finally landed the role that she’s been rumored to take for months: She’ll play Liz Taylor in the Lifetime movie, Liz and Dick, a movie that is getting far more publicity than will likely translate into ratings.

It’s all so very exhausting, isn’t it? But on the bright side, it’ll give the gossip blogs something to chew on for another year or two, and this is the one instance in which their frequent nastiness is actually warranted.
