While nothing has been confirmed yet (and we’ve been burned by casting rumors for this movie before), word is that Diego Luna of Milk, Y Tu Mamá También, and your frequent bunk-time thoughts, will be joining the cast of Star Wars: Rogue One. Rogue One, for those who find the sudden onslaught of announced Star Wars film confusing, is the first anthology spinoff that will come in the years between the new main franchise films. It’s being directed by Monsters’ Gareth Edwards, and is so far starring Felicity Jones, Ben Mendelsohn, and Four Lions’ Riz Ahmed. The film is set to be completely independent of JJ Abrams’ Star Wars, taking place instead just before the events of A New Hope.
At a panel with Edwards and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy at the recent Star Wars Celebration convention in Anaheim, Edwards revealed that the plot of “Rogue One” revolves around the heist of the Death Star plans by a group of rebel fighters, with Jones starring as one of the rebel soldiers. Sources say Ahmed and Luna also play rebel fighters.
The cast is expected to be a large ensemble similar to “The Dirty Dozen” and “Saving Private Ryan,” but sources add Luna is one of the leads of the film with Jones, Ahmed and Mendelsohn.
Disney and Lucasfilm haven’t commented on the casting rumor, but please oh please let this be true. You know, because reasons.
Sexy hair-based reasons.
P.S. Dear Gareth Edwards, Please let Gael García Bernal come too.
