Today is a tense day in politics on both sides of the pond, and in times of stress sometimes we just need something pure and good to hold onto. Luckily Entertainment Weekly is looking out for us, with an exclusive reveal of more of the returning characters and new voices joining the DuckTales revival!
The voice cast for DuckTales is already an embarrassment of riches — which makes sense, since Scrooge McDuck literally swims in money. We knew that Doctor Who’s David Tennant, playing Scrooge, would be joined by the likes of Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz, and Bobby Moynihan as Huey, Dewey and Louie; Kate Micucci as Webby; Toks Olagundoye as Mrs. Beakley; Beck Bennett as Launchpad McQuack; and even Lin-Manuel Miranda as Gizmoduck.
And now we know some of the other denizens of Duckburg! Joining that bursting-with-talent list are Allison Janney (The West Wing) as Goldie O’Gilt, Scrooge’s longtime love interest; Paul F. Tompkins (BoJack Horseman, and personal fave Frank Doyle from the Thrilling Adventure Hour podcast) as dandy nemesis Gladstone Gander; Jim Rash (Community) as the mad scientist Gyro Gearloose, creator of the Gizmoduck suit; and Margo Freaking Martindale (The Americans) as the villainous Ma Beagle. EW also confirmed that Tony Anselmo will do the voice of Donald Duck, which is to be expected — he’s been Donald Ducking around since the ’80s, even voicing the character in Who Framed Roger Rabbit and the video game Kingdom Hearts. Check the EW article linked above for more additional cast members and first-looks at the character designs.
In summary: this show will feature the Tenth Doctor, Abed, Jean-Ralphio, a few SNL players, Alexander Hamilton, Mr. Peanutbutter, C.J. Cregg and others getting ducked together. Life really IS like a hurricane! What did we do to deserve this?!
Look, I get that a bunch of animated ducks in a children’s show aren’t going to somehow make all of the world’s problems go away. But if I can spend even a moment of my day imagining duck versions of David Tennant and Allison Janney going on a hot duck date, it will help heal my soul just a bit. I need this. Just… let me have this.
And because I can’t watch this video enough, here is the main cast singing the theme song:
DuckTales will return to our lives in August, on Disney XD.
