The Trailer for David Simon's New HBO Series Looks Tremendous

HBO has released the first full trailer for David Simon’s next series, a limited one called Show Me a Hero, which stars Oscar Isaac, Winona Ryder, Catherine Keener, Alfred Molina and Jim Belushi. It looks like a cross between A Most Violent Year and American Hustle, and like the latter, the six part mini-series is based on a true story. Set in 1987, it follows the story of Mayor Nick Wasicsko (Isaac), who took office during Yonkers’ worst crisis when federal courts ordered public housing built in the white, middle class side of town, dividing the city in a bitter battle fueled by fear, racism, murder and politics.

It has all the hallmarks of a David Simon series. My only concern is that it’s being directed entirely by Paul Haggis (Crash), although some of us have come to respect the guy since once including him in the Pajiba Axis of Evil.

The series will debut in August.
