David O. Russell's Scrapped Film, 'Nailed,' Gets Unscrapped with a Theatrical Release

Way back in 2008, David O. Russell began work in a film based on Sammy’s Hill from author Kristen Gore (daughter of Al). At the time, the film was called Nailed. However, after James Caan walked off the film (David O. Russell has a history of acrimonious relationships with his actors) and after production was halted four times on the film, David O. Russell finally walked away with an unfinished movie.

Featuring Jessica Biel as a woman who gets a nail in her head and turns into an angry sex addict because she doesn’t have the health care plan to get the nail removed, Nailed was one of those movies no one ever expected to see the light of day. But with the success of Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, the studio decided to splice together what they had (I guess) and turn it into a movie, which also stars Jake Gyllenhaal, James Marsden, Paul Reubens, and Kirstie Alley.

Russell’s name has been taken off the film and replaced with “Stephen Greene,” and the name of the movie has changed to Accidental Love. It looks like a trainwreck, but perhaps an interesting train wreck, even if Obamacare has made the issue mostly moot in the intervening years.

It arrives in VOD on Valentine’s Day, with a small theatrical release thereafter.
