This is the best news we’ve heard since last night’s Arrow finale ended, effectively cutting off Felicity’s whining for several months. Side note to the writers: For the love of Ra’s al Ghul (the new one, *wink*), I adore Felicity, but can we please stop with the whining and crying?
***Warning, Spoilers through the current season of Arrow ahead.
Since the moment Caity Lotz’s Sarah Lance was killed off, we’ve lamented the loss of both the actress and the real Canary, and groaned over Laawwrl’s inability to effectively fill her sister’s suit. Mind you, I’m one of the few who’s generally not bothered by Katie Cassidy’s Laurel; it’s her Black Canary I can’t really buy. Where Lotz’s original felt genuine and in the league of Arrow, fights seem to float around Cassidy’s version —there’s a kick here and a screech there, but the audience can’t find a way to believe she’s actually done anything that could hurt anyone (and in fact, should get her ass kicked a lot more). So, while it seemed too much to hope Lotz would make her way back somehow (but they wasted the Lazarus Pits on Thea?), my heart did a little zing thing when it was announced she’d appear in the upcoming Flash spinoff, Legends of Tomorrow, alongside Brandon Routh, Victor Garber and Wentworth Miller. We knew we’d see Atom, Dr. Martin Stein and Captain Cold, but who in the heck was Lotz going to play? The CW held their cards…until just now.
In the credits for the header photo, and (apparently the trailer) Lotz is confirmed as Sara Lance aka White Canary
#LegendsOfTomorrow trailer confirms Sara Lance is the White Canary, post-Lazarus Pit— Jarett Wieselman (@JarettSays) May 14, 2015
And just in time, here’s the trailer:
I’m sure we can all agree that having the real Canary back is a feather in the CW’s cap (SORRY, THAT WAS TERRIBLE, but I’m not ashamed).
I think I can hear Laawwwrl’s screeching…(and maybe Felicity’s whining and crying in fear of a crossover).
Here’s the official series synopsis:
“When heroes alone are not enough… the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat — one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known?’
Legends of Tomorrow also stars Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter, Ciara Renée as Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl, Dominic Purcell as Heat Wave, and Franz Drameh as Jay Jackson. It’ll premiere midseason, in 2016.
