As some of you may be aware, the World Cup is currently going on. It’s one of those events where American isolationism stands out starkly, as everyone else on earth gets busy losing their mind for a few weeks while many Americans think of it as an amusing curiosity up until our inevitable elimination, at which point we forget it exists for another four years.
But! The US Mens Team has managed to stay alive in the tournament so far which is more than can be said for the Australians, the English, or the reigning Spanish champions. This Sunday we play Portugal, whose star player Cristiano Ronaldo is an international superstar, a cover
girl man, the subject of a documentary voiced by Pajiba-favorite Benedict Cumberbatch, and currently suffering from a knee injury.
Really, if you’ve got $5 and an hour to spare, it looks like there’s something for everyone here: a sports documentary, the touching story of a young (really really ridiculously good-looking) man overcoming the odds, the velvety voice of one of England’s most likable lizard-people, and a chance to really refine your taunts for the upcoming match at 6pm EDT on Sunday night.
