Could the 'X-Files' Reboot Lead the Way to a 'Firefly' Reboot?

The idea that the reboot of an incredibly successful series that ran for nine seasons getting a six-episode reboot next season leading to a Firefly reboot may sound like an absurd possibility, especially given the fact that the Serenity movie didn’t exactly blow away the box-office doors.

But don’t dismiss the possibility out of hand. After all, the resurrection of The X-Files wasn’t as much about extracting revenue out of a new season as it was about increasing the value of the show’s streaming rights on Netflix. It apparently worked for 24, Fox thinks it will work for The X-Files (and I think they’re right), so it’s not out of the question to think that another 6-episode season of Firefly might increase the value of the original 14 episodes (plus the movie) enough to warrant another season, too. thinks it’s possible, and while I wouldn’t have put much stock in that kind of pipe dream, this mysterious tweet from Wil Wheaton yesterday certainly gives us (false) hope:

I just feel bad for poor Alan Tudyk, if the series is miraculously brought back. He must be sitting around somewhere thinking, “But … but … but!”

For the rest of us, just whisper it around. If you create enough buzz, anything is possible. After all, the seed of The X-Files return was planted on the Nerdist podcast.

And if they do bring it back, I know who can sing the theme song.
