I had kind of hoped he’d be a student and join the study group in Chevy’s Chase’s stead, but alas, Jonathan Banks — who played Mike Ehrmantraut on Breaking Bad — is joining the cast of Community. Not in some willy-nilly guest capacity, either. Banks will join the series in the second episode and, for 10 more episodes afterward, he will play Pat Nichols, an intense criminology professor with a mysterious background in military and police work.
Since Dan Harmon has rejoined the series, you can fully expect nods to Breaking Bad this season. In fact, I wouldn’t put it past the guy to devote an entire episode to it. Maybe they’ll find a way to work Chevy Chase’s absence into the plot, in fact. MAYBE Chevy’s character is dead, and MAYBE Banks will help the Greendale solve the mystery, and MAYBE Troy is a casualty of the case in the sixth episode and MAYBE this is really beginning to sound preposterous.
Let’s just stick with the notion that he’ll probably be a exasperated old Community College prof that sighs a lot.
