One of the main selling points of Sony’s upcoming Amazing Spider-Man reborquel seems to be Peter Parker’s burgeoning rivalry with a New York City apartment building door man. At least, that’s what much of the movie’s latest marketing push suggests. The recent theatrical trailer highlighted the conflict by using it as the first punchline, showing that Andrew Garfield’s super protagonist will at least attempt to have a sense of humor. The scene and the “joke” appear again in the international trailer (check it out below), proving that pushy door men must be a point of contention for young lovers the world over.

Now Sony has deemed the sequence so crucial to luring audiences into their newest Spider-web, that they’ve released the actual encounter between Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy’s door man. The scene shares the same peerless wit from the trailer, so if you’re at work then be prepared to stifle a brief chortle. I suspect the door man was supposed to be a Bruce Campbell cameo, or a Bruce Campbell-like cameo than didn’t pan out. Just a hunch. Take a look:

Is it me, or does this version of Spider-Man just hate him some phonies, man?

And if you missed it earlier, you didn’t miss much because it’s virtually the same, and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing, here’s the movie’s international trailer:

I sure do hope that Pete and the door man can patch things up by the end credits, but that answer (and more!) will have to wait until the Amazing Spider-Man opens on July 3. I’m on pincers and mandibles here, people. How about you?

Rob Payne also writes the indie comic The Unstoppable Force, tweets on the Twitter @RobOfWar, and his ware can be purchased here (if you’re into that sort of thing). He thinks Andrew Garfield must have the same stylist Zach Braff had on “Scrubs.”
