Hollywood won’t be satisfied until they ruin ever single last one of our founts of childhood nostalgia. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that a reboot of National Lampoon’s Vacation is in the works. Yes, the 1980s haven’t fully been pilfered, so it’s time to dig up another franchise from the cinematic grave.
Shooting for the project is already set to begin in November, which is cutting it close to reel in some talent. Ed Helms is already set to play the grown-up version of errant Rusty Griswold. Christina Applegate will play Rusty’s wife, of course. Because these movies always have impossibly gorgeous women playing the wives of total schmucks. Except for this reboot, which may reveal a possible deviation from the formula.
The men may be pretty too? At least one of them. Chris Hemsworth is in talks to play a character named Stone Crandall, who is the husband of Rusty’s little sister, Audrey. Chris has reportedly been “itching to do a comedy for awhile,” which sounds like a fantastic idea. He’s been keeping a straight face as Thor for too long and mumbling his way through other beefcake roles. Although Cabin in the Woods possessed its comedic moments, it sounds like Chris wants to do something more straightforward in the raunch department. Vacation would qualify.
Charlie day is set to cameo as a nature guide. Makes sense. The actress who will play Audrey has not yet been cast. Any bets? I’m calling Alyson Hannigan. But they’ll probably go with someone boring like Malin Akerman (who doesn’t fit the Audrey profile at all). Ugh.
