Today is the big day, the day the burritos stood still. After several noteworthy cases of E. Coli poisoning which have left many consumers scared of the once seemingly unstoppable Mexican food brand, the company has closed its stores for most of the day in order to pull together an “all hands on deck” company meeting. The company’s official statement via social media claims that the meeting is both to thank their employees for their hard work during this darkest of times, and to discuss new and improved food safety standards. I’m gonna go out on a limb here and guess that it has a lot more to do with the safety standards. For those who just can’t believe they had to miss out on all that gripping corporate job meeting action, you can find the live tweet log on the company’s official twitter page.
For those of you brave enough to take a Chipotle trust fall again, the company is offering up free burritos to its customers, as a way of apologizing for the half-day closing. So, if you want to get a free burrito because the person making it had to spend the day learning how to do so without killing you, the company says to text the word ‘raincheck’ to 888-222 and you should receive a text coupon within the next few days. (EDIT: It appears the offer has now expired with the re-opening of stores/wounds)
