Celebrate! That 'Key and Peele' Movie Is Really Happening
Back in September, Key and Peele announced that they were in negotiations with Paramount to make a movie based on one of their show’s most popular sketches, “Substitute Teacher.”
Well, those negotiations have now turned to contracts, as Paramount has preemptively bought the rights to the movie ahead of an actual script (which is being written by Key & Peele’s own Rich Talarico and Alex Rubens). So how are they going to turn this one (very funny and subtly biting) joke into a full movie? I don’t know and I don’t care. At this point, I’d be happy to watch 90 minutes of Substitute Teacher sketches, all lined up as a week in this dude’s life. But that’s (one of the many reasons) why I wasn’t asked to write the script, I suppose. Here’s what Deadline has by way of a synopsis:
Keegan-Michael Key will reprise his role as as the over-the-top substitute Mr. Garvey, and Jordan Peele will portray a rival teacher determined to be the students’ favorite.Could that other teacher be Mr. No Nonsense, perchance? He doesn’t seem like he’d stand the best chance at being a school favorite.
