British actor James Corden is reportedly set to replace Craig Ferguson as the host of The Late Late Show, according to The Wrap. Corden is white. And from the UK. But he’s 36, so he’s not as old as the other guys! TWIST.

I’ve liked Corden in what I’ve seen him in — The Wrongs Man, a couple of episodes of Doctor Who — although I recall when he had signed on to the Who episode that Brits had not spoken highly of him. I think he may have been compared unfavorably to Russell Brand (don’t quote me on that, though). He’s amusing, and reminds me of a British Tyler Labine.

He also used to be roommates with Dominic Cooper, for whatever that is worth.

He is not, however, different. He is more of the same, and up against Seth Meyers, more of the same will not matter. He could be the funniest guy on the planet (he is not), but it won’t matter. He is more of the same.

It’s yet another wasted opportunity, and with the late-night slots locked up for the next decade on the networks, it may be a long time yet before a woman breaks through on CBS, NBC, or ABC. That leaves us with Chelsea Handler on Netflix, and this is not a great position to be in.

Boo on CBS.

Oh yeah: And James Corden was a dick to Patrick Stewart at an awards show once. That’s reason enough to dismiss him.
