Just when you thought there would never be good Marvel mutant news again…

This is one of those roundabout bits of news, but — apparently, while at South Korea’s Pusan International Film Festival, Bryan Singer was part of a panel interview and mentioned that he’s throwing his cap in to return to direct another entry in the X-Men franchise.

“I’m still looking to possibly returning to the ‘X-Men’ franchise. I’ve been talking to Fox about it.”

Please Baby Godtopus, make it so. Because who better to salvage the wretched taint-stabblingly miserable shitsmear of a franchise than the man who made it great? Singer’s first two X-Men films were the beginnings of the new age of comic book movie — the first entry of the modern era to feature big name actors and directors with solid dramatic backgrounds. Of course, after X2 it all went to shit — we all know that the Wolverine movie was a wreck, and Brett Ratner should be doing time for inflicting X-Men: The Last Stand upon us.

Seriously, what is it with the third entry in a comic book franchise? Take a look at some of them:

X-Men: The Last Stand
Spider-Man 3
Blade: Trinity
Superman III

I mean, that is a fucking nightmare sequence up there.
