One of my biggest regrets of this past year was not being able to see Neil Patrick Harris star in Hedwig and the Angry Inch on Broadway. (I know, I know, no one has ever suffered as deeply as I.)
But when Andrew Rannells (The Book of Mormon, Girls) took over, I was still hopeful. As far as replacements go, he’s a pretty damn good one.
What wasn’t publicized, though, was that Rannells only signed on for an eight-week run. It was announced today that Michael C. Hall will be taking over the role in October, and suddenly tickets for this show are back on my bucket list (though maybe a few slots farther down). In addition to playing a serial killer for a few too many seasons, Hall has a long history of theatre work. He’s also no stranger to half-naked semi-drag song and dance. Here he is in some publicity shots for his Broadway debut in Cabaret a few years ago.
There are some pretty good bootleg videos of his performance in Cabaret on YouTube. I won’t embed them here because people who record those are going to the special hell, but you can find them easily enough.
And as disappointed as I am that seeing NPH is off the table, I get it. He has things to do. Like a book tour and ALSO GETTING MARRIED.
Guess what? @DavidBurtka and I got married over the weekend. In Italy. Yup, we put the 'n' and 'd' in 'husband'. pic.twitter.com/R09ibF41rt
