'Bright Lights: Starring Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher' Will Drown Us All in Our Own Tears

In 2014 and 2015, Alexis Bloom and Fisher Stevens, who as penance for his role in Short Circuit now makes socially conscious documentary films, followed Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher to examine their lives as deeply connected mother and daughter as well as two distinctly fascinating and important women. Originally slated for release in April, the film will come to us this weekend on HBO. We’re excited to watch, but we wish its earlier release was under far less heartbreaking circumstances.

Any fan of Fisher, most notably Postcards from the Edge or Wishful Drinking, knows just how inextricably tied together Fisher and Reynolds were, right down to their shared funeral tomorrow. At times contentious, sometimes unconventional, but always, always completely loving one another.

Get your tissues. You’ll need them.
