Maybe the trailer for Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper — based on the life of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle and starring Bradley Cooper — gives away too much of the movie. Or maybe it’s just a taste of the emotional turmoil we can expect to endure. But for the way that Bradley Cooper’s eye well up while holding a sniper target on a small child wielding a rocket launched alone, I’d give the man a fucking Oscar nomination. Hell, by the end of the trailer, all I wanted to do was give the man a goddamn hug.
It is seriously one of the most intense trailer I’ve seen in quite some time, and I’m bummed that — save for those who can watch it in the four theaters its being released in on Christmas Day for Oscar consideration — that the rest of us have to wait until January 16th to watch it in its entirety.
