It comes as a surprise to absolutely no one that The Swinton’s commitment to her roles is absolute. When she takes on a part, she goes all the way, and Bong Joon-ho’s Snowpiercer is no exception. The director told a reporter at the film’s New York premiere that for her role as “sinister, corrupt politician,” Minister Mason, Swinton wanted to take the character over the top by wearing a pig’s nose (in addition to her already clown-inspired prosthetics and make-up). Bong: “She had her nose up completely to make a pig’s nose…Ah, it’s too much! Please, let’s stop.”
Too much for Bong Joon-ho — how do you even do that?
The director has nothing but admiration for Tilda, saying “The even more shocking thing was that even with all of those things stuck on her face, she could still emote and create such natural facial expressions. Tilda Swinton is the best. She’s not just an actor, but a creator. And a good dinner companion. “We had dinner, conversed while drinking. Tilda drinks well.”
Of course she does.
Snowpiercer finally opens in U.S. theaters tomorrow.
