A couple months ago, a Bond 24 casting call went out for a Jaws or Oddjob type to play (what they hope will be) a new iconic villain role. The physical description called for an actor at least 6’2,” physically imposing and extremely fit. It took all of thirty seconds for Guardians of the Galaxy’s Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer) to pop into my head, and I threw out that suggestion. Well, guess who was just cast? According to Latino Review, (and backed by Jeff Sneider), Bautista is a lock for 007’s next antagonist. According to the original description, the villain will engage in several fights with Daniel Craig, as well as a major driving sequence (presumably, that chase along Via delle Quattro Fontane). This is a great coup for Bautista, whose nuanced Guardians performance was a delightful surprise. Everybody dance!
This grand announcement comes on the heels of last Friday’s Bond girl news that “femme fatale” Léa Seydoux had been hired, and Mark Strong is rumored as another Bond foe.
Now, if someone would just hire me as their casting agent, all would be right in the world.
