The otherwise culturally irrelevant former Mrs. Reese Witherspoon, Ryan Phillipe, hosted “SNL” last night for reasons that only make sense if you know that he’s also starring in MacGruber, due out next month, and that Lorne Michaels is a total whore. It was a fairly lackluster show, as “SNL” shows are wont to be, but the highlight of the night had to be when Phillipe dressed in black-light make-up as some cross-gender hip-hop crackhead Native American lady person. It was one of the more memorable skits in recent memory.
I hope they can somehow bring that Ke$ha character back in future episodes. Plus, Phillipe’s got some pipes! I think he could turn her into the next “SNL” movie. No lie.
Otherwise, the Digital Short was near unwatchable. The monologue — where “SNL” characters pitched their own movie ideas — was lackluster, save for Kenan Thompson (near the end):
Finally, the only other highlight: Sudeikis’ ESPN anchor was, as usual, pretty great. Tonight’s sponsor: Contraceptive sponges. “Trying to avoid the stork … Use this little vagina cork.”
