This news seems too good to be true, too wonderful not to be impossible. But collectively, we have willed a Rihanna/Lupita Nyong’o movie into existence. You might remember how the fiercely stylish pair were captured in a divine photo that not only awed fans, but inspired them to create art and begin pitching a movie, where the to-die-for duo are basically Dirty Rotten Scoundrels for a new era.

Rihanna looks like she scams rich white men and lupita is the computer smart best friend that helps plan the scans https://t.co/PhWs1xd3nj

Rihanna would play a gorgeous and ruthless scammer, seeking to snatch wealth away for whatever poor rube falls for her. Lupita would portray her striking and whip-smart partner-in-crime, who does the tech stuff and plans heists. And the idea took off fast with more suggestions coming fast and fabulous: Selma’s Ava DuVernay should direct. Insecure’s Issa Rae should write it. And now Netflix has agreed. Officially.
EW reports Netflix won “a very aggressive bidding war” out of the Cannes Film Festival for the unnamed vehicle, penned by Rae, helmed by DuVernay, starring Rihanna and Nyong’o.
We don’t know how closely the unnamed film will be to the original concept pitched on Twitter. But Vanity Fair has discovered “the original Twitter users who imagined the concept for this film will be credited and included in some form.” Production is expected to roll in 2018, after DuVernay has completed her big-budget Disney adaptation of A Wrinkle In Time.
And Twitter rejoiced.

Most of the amazing women involved this project are staying mum. But DuVernay took a moment shared in the revelry.
We deserve nice things. ✌🏾️https://t.co/VlbKhLNDIv

Now it just needs a name. We assume it has one, and that’ll be a whole other press blast. But for now, take your guess in comments. Whoever gets it right gets bragging rights and facetime with Godtopus.
