'Batgirl' Script To Be Penned By Real-Life Woman Christina Hodson Instead Of Guy Who Wrote 'Buffy'
It’s been over a year since Joss Whedon was tapped to write and direct a live-action Batgirl movie for Warner Bros. and DC. Whedon is now out, according to Variety, so the studio has brought on Christina Hodson to take over writing duties.
Who is Christina Hodson, the woman other headlines don’t even mention?
Hodson made the 2013 Black List of the best unproduced scripts in Hollywood with a screenplay called Seed. She wrote the 2016 movie Shut In, which starred Namoi Watts, Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things), and Jacob Tremblay (Room). She also wrote 2017’s Unforgettable, a revenge/thriller about a woman (Katherine Heigl) who goes nuts on her ex-husband’s new fiancée (Rosario Dawson).
Yeah. I haven’t seen either of them.
Along with the Batgirl script, her screenplay for Bumblebee has been filmed and is in post-production. If like me, you stupidly thought for a split second that Bumblebee was a standalone film about the DC heroine of the same name, you will be just as disappointed as I was to realize it’s the Transformers spin-off.
Sure, Hodson may be a better choice to write Barbara Gordon, but wouldn’t actual comic writer Roxane Gay be an even better choice? She’s written for Black Panther, for fart’s sake. AND SHE VOLUNTEERED TO WRITE THE SCRIPT.
Whatever. We shall see what happens with the newest scribe in the DCEU. My guess is excitement, disappointment, and then resigned acceptance.
