Jamie Bamber is red hot,
Jamie Bamber is not blue,
Jamie Bamber is sweet,
Oh Jamie Bamber, the things I could do with you!
And now the actual news. I don’t know what’s going on across the pond with “Law & Order: UK” or “Outcasts,” because BAM!ber just signed on to Ronald D. Moore’s science fiction/crime series, “17th Precinct.” Frankly, I don’t care about those other series—I’m about Law & Ordered up to here and what I’ve read about “Outcasts” hasn’t been good. But this news? Let’s just say it makes me tingle. Everywhere.
“17th Precinct” is a procedural crime drama with a twist: Excelsior, the town being policed, is filled with magic and supernatural creatures and the cops will investigate paranormal crime. Bamber will head up the cast as Coalan, a crime scene detective and joining him, as fellow cop Mira, is former Grease girl and “West Wing-er,” Stockard Channing. Pilot director Michael Rymer (“Battlestar Galactica,” Queen of the Damned) says, “There’s a lot of FX work. I’m very excited because it’s going to be a real challenge to figure out how to explain why something is magical and not technological.”
I was already anxious to go on Moore’s next journey, adding BAM!ber to the cast is just sweet, delicious, fluffy icing on the cake. While NBC has only ordered the pilot for “17th Precinct” thus far, I can’t imagine it not getting a series pick-up. Heck, this gives me a glimmer of hope for network television. So say we all?
