Those of us cord cutters who have come to rely on Hulu to stream episodes of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Arrow, Jane the Virgin, The Flash, and iZombie, among others, are going to be hugely disappointed this fall when the arrangement between Hulu and the CW ends.
There’s good news and bad news here. The bad news, of course, is that Hulu — which I basically only use to watch ABC and Fox sitcoms, as well as Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and a smattering of Hulu original series — becomes a little less useful without the CW shows. We will, however, still be able to access streaming versions of those series on CW’s own streaming platform. However, I am assuming there will be no way to opt out of commercials, as there is on Hulu, and commercials on streaming networks are irritating as hell. (If you have cable, of course, you can still watch these shows on your DVR, through VOD, or live, but who watches anything live anymore?)
However, the good news for bingewatchers, in particular, is that The CW is now in negotiations with Netflix to make those shows available to the streaming service more quickly. Currently, the CW shows usually arrive on Netflix a week or two before the new season starts. This arrangement will allow Netflix to stream CW shows two weeks after a season ends.
In other words, you may not be able to watch iZombie or Crazy Ex-Girlfriend week to week on Hulu, but you will be able to watch entire seasons of them in April, May, or June on Netflix.
Fox, NBC, and ABC series will still be available next day on Hulu.
