Here are a couple of tasty Marvel crumbs to enjoy with your morning coffee (or tea, as the case may be). First up, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Civil War helmers Anthony and Joe Russo have finally been officially confirmed as directors of the 2-part Avengers: Infinity War films. After two Marvel films, Joss Whedon made it clear he was ready to move on, and though the Russos have reportedly been lined up since last fall, confirmation is just now being made official. After the pure joy that was The Winter Soldier, I can’t see anyone being less than thrilled.
In related news (Spider-Man is expected to appear in Infinity Wars and may have a Civil War cameo), Badass Digest reports that a so-secret-it-took-place-at-someone’s-house Spider-Man audition was recently held, and the potential new Spidey was Weeds and Murder in the First actor, Mateus Ward.
Regardless of whether or not Ward actually wins out, the rumors that Marvel is interested in going younger with a 16 or 17 year old appear to be true, however, this doesn’t do much for the other rumor — that the next Spider-Man may not be white. Disappointed, we are.
Still, unlike the Russo news, this audition means nothing official, so let’s focus on celebrating the good: Infinity Wars is going to kick ass.
