Kathryn Bigelow seems to be drawn to violent tales and she’s getting ready to begin work on her next one, tentatively titled Triple Frontier (which may possibly be changed to Sleeping Dogs). The ensemble film is about organized crime taking place in the area known as the the Triple Frontier, a tri-border zone where Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay meet. The area is alleged to be a hotbed of funding for terrorist organizations, prostitution, money-laundering, the trafficking of drugs, guns, illegal laborers and even children (for both adoption and the sex trade). The lack of coordination of law enforcement agencies in the area apparently makes it difficult to control crime, leaving the area practically lawless.
Though there were previously rumors that Johnny Depp was attached to Triple Frontier (what the hell isn’t he attached to these days?), producer Charles Roven (The Dark Knight) confirmed to comingsoon.net that Tom Hanks is the first to officially sign on and that they are now searching for the rest of the cast. With Hanks at the head of the pack, I’d expect an all-star group and it sounds like Bigelow is on the hunt for her next batch of Academy Awards.
Shooting is expected to begin March 2011.
