Anthony Mackie to Play Jimi Hendrix: This Is the Rock Super Hero We've Been Waiting For
Good news for those of us who feel that the lack of Anthony Mackie in our lives is the biggest obstacle between ourselves and true happiness. It was announced at Cannes this week that our feathered friend will be playing Jimi Hendrix in the biopic Jimi. Mackie has actually been attached the this project for about four years (back when it was going to be titled Crosstown Traffic), but the film fell apart when Hendrix’s estate took issue with the way the rock god was being portrayed, and the producers lost the rights to use any of the original music (as also happened with the upcoming All Is By My Side, starring Andre 3000 as Jimi). But with a change of director (from Paul Greengrass to Ol Parker) and, presumably, some major script alterations, production is back up and filming is set to begin soon. Thandie Newton and Noomi Rapace are in talks to costar in the movie, which will focus on the last nine days of Hendricks’ life.
Hopefully this means we can look forward to that wonderful Mackie brand live commentary for this kind of performance:
