Still Trying To Get Her Groove Back

Angela Bassett does not get nearly enough quality work, folks. In addition to being absolutely friggin’ stunning (at 52, no less), she’s blown people away in some absolute gems — films like Strange Days, Boyz N The Hood and Malcolm X. Unfortunately, she’s also starred in crap like Supernova and Mr. 3000. Fucking criminal, if you ask me.

Anyway, now she’s signed on to join This Means War, a lamely titled action-comedy with a surprisingly cool cast. Back when we originally reported it, all we knew was that it’s about “two male friends who have been BFFs since childhood who then fall in love with the same woman.” Now the plot has more detail — it’s actually about two government operatives who fall for the same woman, and apparently things escalate to the point where they almost level New York City in their efforts to win her over. Back when we reporting the early details, the rumored cast was Reese Witherspoon and Bradley Cooper. Cooper’s moved on, but Witherspoon is still attached.

The two suitors? Chris Pine (Star Trek) and Pajiba favorite Tom Hardy (Bronson, The Dark Knight Rises). Bassett will play their boss, “who has dedicated her entire life to the spy business and has no life outside the CIA.” It’s being directed by Joseph McGinty Nichol.

Strong cast, goofy premise, could be fun.

Oh, wait. I forgot to tell you something important.

You probably know Joseph McGinty Nichol better by his Hollywood nomme de guerre, McG.

Yeah. The Charlie’s Angels guy. The guy who shit all over the Terminator franchise. That guy.

Never mind what I said. It’ll crunch horse balls. In fact, the only relevant information is the very first line. Angela Bassett does not get nearly enough quality work.
