Amazon Suspends Entertainment Chief Roy Price After Sexual Harassment Allegations

After a chilling week of revelations around the sexual abuse and aggression of producer Harvey Weinstein, it seems that Hollywood may be close to undergoing a rigorous process of cleaning house. Last night, Amazon announced that they had suspended their entertainment chief Roy Price, following renewed sexual harassment allegations.

With more people feeling safe enough to come forward with their allegations of industry harassment and abuse, an alleged incident involving Price and Lisa Hackett, an executive producer on the Amazon series The Man in the High Castle came to light once again. Hackett claims Price made inappropriate sexual jokes towards her and tried to pressure her into sex.

Price was previously being represented by Lisa Bloom, the attorney who briefly advised Weinstein (and has a TV show option with him), but he has since been dropped as a client. This comes after Rose McGowan tweeted at Jeff Bezos to claim a top executive at Amazon rejected her claims that Weinstein raped her. This is the first time McGowan has confirmed the name of her alleged attacker, having previously only hinted at it, possibly due to a non-disclosure agreement. Amazon is developing two series with the Weinstein Company, one from Matthew Weiner and the other with David O. Russell, but it has been rumoured that Amazon may drop their involvement with The Weinstein Company, partly due to the recent allegations but also because of ballooning costs.

Let’s fumigate this industry.
