Ana Lily Amirpour broke onto the scene in 2014 with her directorial debut, the first ever Iranian, feminist vampire-western, A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night. The blazingly original film focuses on a hijab-wearing, skateboard-riding vampire who stalks residents of the ghost town that is Bad City. Since premiering at Sundance last year, it’s won wild (and well-deserved) praise from critics. In my own review, I called it, “A collision of influences that blend into a surreal thriller that is sometimes creepy, sometimes sweet, but consistently spellbinding.”And now it’s won Amirpour a sweet production deal with Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures.

The Film Stage reports Annapurna Pictures in conjunction with VICE has signed up to produce Amirpour’s follow-up Bad Batch. And from the sound of it, this movie will be just as enticing a tangle of influences as her first. Amirpour has described the film as “Road Warrior meets Pretty in Pink with a dope soundtrack.”

How’s that now? Well, Amirpour explains, “(It’s) a post-apocalyptic cannibal love story set in a Texas wasteland…A muscled cannibal breaks the rule ‘don’t play with your food’.”

As A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night also had a predator falling for her potential prey, could this be this be the start to a “I love you but I want to eat you” trilogy? I hope so. But it’d need a better name.
