The Longest Day of My Life

Who knew when Kiefer Sutherland sold his soul for a rejuvenated career back in 2001 that it would end up being worth eight seasons? “24” is coming back on January 17th (you know, unless you’ve got Time Warner Cable) and Fox has released a promo trailer for the upcoming season.

Why do the show runners insist on bringing Kim back? She makes Kelly Bundy look like a rocket scientist. Hell, she makes Buck Bundy look positively Einsteinian. Perhaps they’re just assuming we’ll long for the familiar idiocy of Kim once we meet Freddie Prinze Jr’s character.

Of course they also landed Katee Sackoff for the entire season, which is deeply confusing. It seems inconceivable that the same show runners who cast Prinze would also go for Sackoff. The size of the pool of people who appreciate both Scooby Doo 2 and “Battlestar Galactica” is a positive integer less than one. Are they just randomly pulling names out of IMDB to cast the eighth season at this point?

Eh, “24” is “24” though, and part of what makes Jack Bauer the biggest badass since Chuck Norris started sagging in all the right places is the fact that he is surrounded by inexplicable combinations of morons and geniuses.
