21 Jump Street + Broad City = Probably the Best Thing Ever, Right?

While we’re all admittedly tired of the spinoff and sequel and reboot craze we’re caught in the middle of, every once in a while, one of those derivative projects sounds pretty damn cool. Like this female-driven 21 Jump Street spinoff from a couple of Broad City writers.

The ink is still fresh, but I can confirm that Broad City writers Lucia Aniello and Paul Downs will write the screenplay based on the tone of the reboot series starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum.

Hill and Tatum are set to reprise their roles for the upcoming 23 Jump Street. Sony is also currently developing on a female led Ghostbusters spinoff starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon, with Paul Fieg set to direct.

Aniello and Downs serve as co-producers and writers on the Comedy Central series Broad City, which stars comedians Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer. Downs also plays a supporting character on the series, Trey the fitness instructor.

I don’t care how tired you are of the reboot and spinoff tsunami, this sounds damn exciting. Plus, hopefully, if we make enough of these “Lady Ghostbusters” and “Lady 21 Jump Streets,” eventually the gender divide will fade away and we’ll just be left with sequels and spinoffs we can criticize for their unoriginality, and not even mention the gender aspect.
