Today was the last day of the Star Wars Celebration convention in Anaheim, and they closed out with details on the OTHER new Star Wars movie that’s in development; Rogue One starring Felicity Jones. If you want to remain completely unspoiled, turn back now.
As our wonderful friend Joanna Robinson writes for Vanity Fair, the new film takes place almost immediately before A New Hope. But, as mentioned in A New Hope, the Jedi have been missing for years, so The Force will not be a part of this film. This is a mission led by normal soldiers trying to go against the Empire without any enhanced skills or knowledge. There’s no teaser online yet, but when there is we will update.
This new film will be part of a larger Star Wars Anthology that will include stories beyond those based on or around the events in the original three films, and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said that they are specifically looking for “emerging” directors willing to take chances with the format. It could lead to some interesting results down the road.
