What's With the Huge Difference Between the Foreign and Domestic 'The Walking Dead' Previews?

If you’ve ever noticed it seems like international movie trailers are better cut and give more pertinent information, you won’t be surprised at the huge difference between The Walking Dead “Always Accountable” teaser we got here in the good, old U.S.A., and the one our foreign friends saw. Granted, in the age of the interwebs and all that cloudy stuff, it’s not terribly difficult to equalize ourselves, but why should we have to? It’s bad enough we have to wait years to get most foreign films here. Knowing those across-the-ponders get better health care and previews; it’s almost too much to bear. Fork it, I’m voting for the president who’ll get us the entertainment equality we deserve. The way things are going, I’m pretty sure we’ll have to lock ourselves indoors after the election, so we may as well pick the person looking after our viewing needs.

Seriously though, watch this episode 6 preview we were served:

That’s 50 seconds of exhausted Daryl in the woods, dragging his bike, calling for Abraham and Sasha on the radio and looking at his surroundings, followed by 10 seconds of musical interlude.

There’s another short one (33 seconds) that has some of the same footage cut with flashes of Sasha and Abraham shooting, them racing in a car and walkers walking, but there isn’t much more information to be had.

Now, take a gander at this fast-paced, yet at 1:33 minutes, almost leisurely German teaser, which opens with someone in a car shooting at Daryl:

Daryl, Sasha and Abraham are all being pursued and shot at by multiple people in vehicles. Daryl wipes out, recovers, and — in between dodging walkers — is chased and shot at again. Abraham and Sasha drive through a wall, shoot the crap out of one of the cars (we see another crash), and they pause long enough for an actual conversation about the people chasing them.

***Minor comic Spoilers ahead***

I’m not advocating for trailers that tell too much story; I despise movie previews that leave nothing to the imagination. But, there’s no question which of these teases is more enticing. More importantly, in the foreign promo, we know for sure that Abraham, Sasha and Daryl are being hunted (not only by walkers), and that begs the question: Who are the armed people in the cars? Since The Wolves we’ve seen haven’t had a lot of guns, is it possible this Sunday’s episode will be our introduction to The Saviors, whose newly cast leader, Negan will first appear up in the season finale? It would actually be cool if we don’t see much more than this faceless attack, with no close contact until late in the season; keeps an air of mystery. And while you could say the same for our less-revealing promos, I know the next episode I want to watch is the one I saw in the German teaser. That’s the preview that gets our hearts pumping and our curiosity piqued, whereas the American spot makes it look as if we’re possibly in for another slow, meandering hour without much forward movement.

The Walking Dead, “Always Accountable” airs this Sunday on AMC.
