Given how huge The Walking Dead is, it’s surprising to me that we don’t know that much about the lives of the cast members, outside of Norman Reedus. It’s probably because they’re mostly reserved British actors, and because they film in Georgia, away from the tabloid photographers (though not, apparently, far enough away from drones, who spy on The Walking Dead set looking for spoilers).
Did you know, however, that Sonequa Martin-Green — who plays Sasha on the series — had a baby in January? In fact, she was pregnant during filming of the fifth season, which is why we saw her so frequently wearing an army jacket and carrying around a gun.
She was covering her baby bump.
It’s probably not easy for any actor or actress to jump right back into work after giving birth, but you know what might make it easier? Having your spouse on set with you. It’s kind of sweet, then, that Sonequa Martin-Green’s husband, Kenric Green, has joined the cast as one of the existing Alexandrians. He plays Scott, a minor role in the season premiere (you’ll be able to spot him as one of the new guys who hangs around with the Heath, a major addition to the cast in season six).
It would be gutting, however, for either one of them have to see the other die on the series, and given the way that The Walking Dead works, that’s all but inevitable.
Sonequa Martin-Green, by the way, auditioned for the role of Michonne, and though she lost out to Danai Gurira, they liked her so much that they created the role of Sasha specifically for her (the character does not exist in the comics).
