Stephen Colbert Wants to go Stephen-A-Stephen With The White House's New Liemonger

Cable and TV news producers are having a hard time figuring out what to do with all the White House counselors who have absolutely no problem telling bald-faced lies to the American public on camera — your Kellyanne Conways and your Stephen Millers, for example. Do you allow them airtime to call them out and risk giving them a platform in the first place? Or do you choose, as CNN’s Jake Tapper and Joe Scarborough have recently done, to ignore them completely?

Sure, Stephen Colbert isn’t technically in the business of “news” anymore, but he did find another more novel approach to the problem: formally inviting Stephen Miller to The Late Show on Monday night. After all, Miller did say he would appear on any show, anywhere, anytime!

(For the Youtube skippy-among us, the Stephen Miller jokes start about 2:52 minutes in; the formal invitation is at 6:13.)

Of course, Miller didn’t appear on Tuesday, so now Colbert gets to call him a liar! But he can always schedule a later appearance if he so chooses, so Colbert can… call him a liar. Either way, the best Stephen will no doubt emerge victorious.

Just be warned, Miller: if you do choose to accept this invitation, you should probably stick to easily debunkable lies about Trump. If you step a toe into the realm of Middle Earth, Colbert’s wrath will be terrible, his retribution swift.
