Princess Leia Counsels 'The Force Awakens'' Rey: Don't Wear the Slave Outfit

Like mother, like daughter? I’m pretty convinced that Star Wars: The Force Awakens Rey, played by Daisy Ridley, will turn out to be Leia’s daughter, and this new interview is only heightening my suspicions. There’s something about Rey’s look and manner that reminds me of a young Carrie Fisher, not the least of which is her onscreen presence.

Leia has some costuming advice that frankly, should apply to everyone (just add it to Jodi’s What Not to Wear list):

“Don’t be a slave like I was…You keep fighting against that slave outfit.”

Solid advice, whether mother to daughter or actress to actress. But Ridley, who clearly admires Fisher, can’t help how she feels about her predecessor:

Ridley: “People have been asking me about crushes out of the original film, and I say you every time. They were like, ‘Is there anyone you particularly look up to?’ And I’m like, ‘Well, Carrie, obviously.’

Fisher: “That’s good. You didn’t like Mark [Hamill] or Harrison [Ford]?”

Ridley: “Of course, I like them both! But you’re a kick-ass woman.”

Damn straight.

The full conversation is a fun read that includes the Volkswagen scandal, “space-ist” pajamas, ruining Keira Knightly’s life, and plans for a trip to Vegas with new Star Wars suitcases and a lot of non-slave costumery, that Fisher thinks might end up with the two actresses committed to some sort of psychiatric facility.
