Is Gwendoline Christie Playing This Spectacularly Named 'Star Wars' Character?

Warning: Some of the information below may be Spoilers for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. If you don’t want to read rumors that may be true, back on out now. I’ll white out the very specific part.

Not long after the announcement Game of Thrones’ Gwendoline Christie had joined Star Wars, rumors surfaced that she’d be playing a silver-armored stormtrooper. While very cool, that on its own was just a rumor, but later more details were added by a different source. Additionally, stormtroopers (and the Empire) are purported to be a major presence in The Force Awakens, confirmed by Kevin Smith when he visited the set. A slightly different and more specific slant emerged, and here’s the part I’ll white out for those who want to skip (swipe ahead to see): Another source claims Christie is playing a character who was originally male, possibly an imperial officer. She’s said to be John Boyega’s (Finn) commanding officer, pissed and chasing him down because he’s deserted. There are further rumors/spoilers at the link, but I’ll let you choose whether you want to read more. (via Badass Digest) Please don’t discuss whited out information in the comments.

So, the final piece of this delicious pie is that following last week’s reveal of Force Awakens character names, Lucasfilm and Disney Studios filed to register trademarks for them … but there was one name we hadn’t already heard: Captain Phasma.

Captain Phasma! Now that’s a good name; just let it roll off your tongue. Stitch Kingdom was unable to locate any previous mention of any such character except, interestingly enough, in a bit of fanfiction. Us here on the interwebosphere, being the imaginative (speculative) entity it is, are all putting things together and deducing that Captain Phasma would be a most suitably spectacular name for Christie’s officer. If all this turns out to be true — whether she’s a gleaming stormtrooper, or that possible spoiler up there is valid — we’re all going to have many, many Star Wars-gasms.
